One Small Step

So my second MC now has a name and a bit of a backstory.   I have an inkling of an opening scene, well, more than an inkling – I just have to figure out which POV is going to be best.

In the meantime, I have researched Santa Cruz some, deciding that this will be where the story – no, the book is set.  I think calling it a book or a novel is probably better than calling it a story.  Gives it more weight.  Makes it something more concrete.

Ever onward!

I’ve noticed that a lot of the writers I know give themselves word goals for their writing sessions.  One of my writer friends doesn’t  use a quantity of words, but actual things as her goal, for instance, today her goal might be to move her characters out of the house and down to the barn where the next scene will take place.  Whatever the approach, there is always a goal in mind, and I wonder if this holds the writer to being more accountable for their output.  I’ve always just sat and written until I’ve stopped for the day, but maybe that’s not the best way.  I’m going to have to ponder this.

I didn’t get anything concrete done today.  I got caught up in a marathon of “The 80’s: The Decade That Made Us” and there went any hope of being productive.

Not Much…

I didn’t get anything really concrete done today.  Too much crazy online and I had to go out and have the regular blood tests this aft.  But I did mind work.  Another character popped into my head – one of the MC’s mothers – and I spent a lot of time mulling her over and thinking about her and how she might fit into the story.  Later tonight or tomorrow, I’ll get her character sheet up in Scrivener.

In other news, I went to pick up my latest batch of comics.   Sadly, my comics shop is moving locations and won’t be as easy to get to anymore.  I can still get my books shipped to me or even have the owner drop them off because he lives in the same neighbourhood as I do.  He also had a little prezzie for me.  A copy of a Mike Grell Green Arrow!  Mike Grell is my favourite, most very favourite comics artist.   I was thrilled.

Apropos of not much, tomorrow the weather forecast is for temps going up to summer type levels.  I can’t WAIT!  Then it’s going to get chilly again, but we’ll take what we can get.

Another New Start…

So I’ve had this blog for a while; it’s just sitting here, languishing as a bookmark for the most part.  I’ve decided to put it to some use.  God knows how long it’s going to last.

I’m trying this writing thing again.  Orignal fiction.  I’m so inspired by all the new author friends I’ve made and how good so much of their work is, so I’m going to try and do it myself.  Again.

I’m trying out the Scrivener writing tool on the recommendations of Heidi Cullinan and Heather Lackey and so far I’m liking it.  I KNOW I’m not using it to its full potential, but then again, I’m not using myself to my full potential either!  *LOL*

So this blog is probably going to be filled with things pertaining to writing.  The writing I’m doing.  The bitching I’m going to do about other people’s writing.  *LOL*   And the praise of other people’s writing.   No one is reading this now, but one day, when I’m rich and famous from my work, everyone will want to read it. *LOL*  I’m preparing for the future, see?

So right now I’m going to get ready for Survivor.  I will be back.
